May 31, 2021. Pandemic Blues. Pokey has always dreamed about pirates on the high seas! So today he and Gumby are watching a pirate battle happening right in front of them! “Look” shouts the Admiral” There’s the pirate captain! He’s running away with the gold! He’s got a treasure map!” Gumby and Pokey are very excited! “Fire! “ yells the Admiral. “Fire the cannon! Quick before he escapes!” But Gumby and Pokey don’t know how to fire a cannon and so the pirate captain rows away to hide his gold. May 28,2021. Pandemic Blues. Gumby and Pokey had planned a bicycle and skateboard trip around the park. But when they got up this morning it was pouring rain! Pokey is upset and is angrily kicking his skateboard. “What are we supposed to do now?”groans Pokey. “I know it’s not perfect but I am going to think about us riding along in the sunshine to a little cafe. And surprise! our friends are there having tea! And scones! And we will join them and have a really nice time!” Gumby rambles on like this for a while until Pokey interrupts” okay that’s lovely but now I want scones desperately!” “ Well” says Gumby “We could make some.” And off to the kitchen they go to make cranberry cheddar scones and tea. May 26,2021. Pandemic Blues. It’s been so hot lately that Gumby and Pokey decided to imagine being in the far north. “At least we will think it’s cooler!”says Pokey. They are thinking of polar bears, ice , seals and an igloo. “Imaginings great fun” says Gumby “and I do feel cooler just thinking about lots of ice and snow. But you know there are problems with the world getting too warm and even up North the snow is disappearing too much!” Poor Pokey it makes his head swim to think the ice will all melt away! “What can I do?”he wails. “Well maybe be more careful about how we use energy. “ suggests Gumby. “I’m going to write a letter to the government telling them they need to help!”exclaims Pokey. “ Well that might help!”answers Gumby . May 21, 2021. Pandemic Blues. Gumby and Pokey are visiting the Racoon Family today. They didn’t get lost this time in the forest, they were careful to follow directions and pay attention. Pokey and Baby Racoon were making game plans on their own and getting ready to dash off into the trees. Be careful” Gumby tells Pokey “stay with your friend who knows his way around here!” “Don’t worry” says Father Racoon “Baby knows his way. They be fine! Now I have a lovely new beer for you to try”. Gumby is pleased and adds” Yes that would be great. I bought some special new chips to try too. May 20,2021. Pandemic Blues. Today is very hot and humid and Gumby and Pokey decided to rest in the garden with some good books, chips and beer for Gumby. Pokey’s book is about the jungle which he finds is both fascinating and scary! All those dangerous animals with large teeth he thinks! Meanwhile , Gumby has fallen asleep , lulled by the heat and good chips and beer. Suddenly Pokey thinks he sees a crocodile or something very prehistoric looking with many teeth. And the garden has been transformed into a jungle! As the crocodile creeps closer and closer, Pokey slowly backs away. He begins to whimper softly” Gumby wake up! Help I’m really scared what are we going to do ?! I don’t want to be crocodile LUNCH!” The last bit comes out as a scream and Gumby jumps up. “ what’s wrong?”he shouts. Pokey is hiding behind his book and shaking” Look at the crocodile!”he gasps. Gumby looks around and only sees his garden and a little toad hopping away. “I think” Gumby says “that your imagination has run away with you! May 19, 2021. Pandemic Blues. Up, up and away in their beautiful balloon for Gumby and Pokey! If you have seen their previous Covid adventures, you will remember that the first time Gumby went up in a hot air balloon he was terrified. Pokey of course loved the ride! But now Gumby is going to try again. He’s been learning how to meditate and calm himself. He even tried some yoga although he had trouble with some of the bendy parts. So away they float ! And this time Gumby remembers not to look down , to breathe and enjoy the ride. “ Isn’t it marvellous!” exclaims Pokey. “Yes “ replies Gumby” the colours of the balloons are lovely! But are you sure this balloon is sturdy?” “It’s fine! Don’t worry, be happy”answers Pokey. He was standing on the edge, trying to catch a frog -when plop - in he went! “Help,help” he started screaming “ I’m drowning! I’m going down!” “You are fine!” exclaims an exasperated Gumby “ That pond is only a couple of inches deep!” Pokey looks around and realizes the frogs only have their feet under water. So he jumps up and starts splashing about and laughing. An otters has been watching the whole performance, and is laughing too. Gumby wishes he had brought chips and beer. May 17,2021. Pandemic Blues. Gumby has been busy, planting spring flowers in the backyard. Suddenly, Pokey comes galloping around the corner, right through the new garden. He crashes into the wagon, sprays sand everywhere and topples the new flowers! “Oh no!”shouts Gumby “ What are you doing?!” “I’m sorry , I didn’t mean to. My galloping was out of control!”whimpers Pokey . Gumby takes a deep breath, decides it’s not so bad and says to Pokey “ Well I hope you are okay. Get up now and give me a hand with fixing the mess.” In the end , the garden was not quite as Gumby planned but maybe it was even better. May 13,2021. Pandemic Blues. After such an exciting adventure in the forest, Gumby and Pokey have gone for a quiet walk in their town. They’ve been to the library to pick out a new book and bought some flowers at the market. Now they are sitting at a cafe in the park . Gumby has his morning coffee and Pokey has a large bottle of orange pop. Gumby says “ On our way home I think we should stop at the grocery store for more chips.” “And apples!”shouts Pokey “ I like crunchy apples!” “Okay , but are you really going to drink all that pop?” “ No problem!”answers Pokey. May 12, 2021. Pandemic Blues. Gumby and Pokey have been walking around and around in the forest. Gumby feels terrible! He thinks he should have been paying attention and not lost the path. And Pokey has been very quiet because he is really afraid. He’s thinking that everyone says he’s brave and bold but really he is very afraid . Pokey doesn’t like being lost. As they are climbing over a large rock, Pokey suddenly says “ I know this rock! This is my jumping rock!” “ Look “says Gumby “ There is a raccoon family on the other side!” The Racoon family jumps up in surprise and Papa Racoon says “ What’s going on?”in a gruff voice. Pokeys afraid again but Gumby says “We’ve been lost in the woods!” And so the raccoon family explain how to find their way home while Pokey and the Baby Racoon practice jumping off the rock( after agreeing to share the jumping rock). May 10, 2021. Pandemic Blues. The other day, Pokey was sprayed by a skunk! And afterwards he went home and had a bath. Actually about 3 baths with special shampoo and other things to try to remove the smell. He was almost done when he noticed all the pictures taped to the walls. “What’s all this?”he asked. “ Oh” says Gumby “ I am thinking about redecorating the bathroom. Especially now it needs to be freshened! Those photos are my ideas- I am trying to decide which one I like the best.” Hmmm thinks Pokey. “I guess that’s a good idea. But I like it the way it is!” “It will be nice when it’s all done!”says Gumby “and anyway it really needs to be cleaned up now!” Pokey is a little annoyed . It’s not his fault the skunk sprayed him! Gumby notices that Pokey looks upset and so he suggests a nice afternoon tea and cookies. Gumby has fallen asleep in the sun and Pokey is tired of reading. He goes down the river bank to do some exploring. And he meets someone with a beautiful black and white fur coat! Pokey dashes over to say hello but unfortunately he scares his new friend! Skunk , the new friend raises his tail and sprays! Pokey , his eyes streaming and gagging , rushes back to Gumby. “ Wake up !”he screams and starts gagging” ack, gagaga! Yuck ohhhh! “ Gumby jumps up. “oh no!” Gumby shouts “ A Skunk!! He watches intently the big machines and the workers discussing their jobs. “ Isn’t it the best!” he exclaims. “ Oh I don’t know “says Gumby “ not much is happening.” “They are planning!”shouts Pokey “ you have to plan ahead so you don’t make mistakes!” Now the construction men notice them and say “Hey you can’t be here , it can be dangerous! He watches intently the big machines and the workers discussing their jobs. “ Isn’t it the best!” he exclaims. “ Oh I don’t know “says Gumby “ not much is happening.” “They are planning!”shouts Pokey “ you have to plan ahead so you don’t make mistakes!” Now the construction men notice them and say “Hey you can’t be here , it can be dangerous! May 5, 2021. Pandemic Blues. Gumby has taken Pokey to the beach. He’s thinking that might be more fun than art museums for Pokey. After all he mutters to himself-I can be fun too! They are walking down the beach to find a good spot to set up for the day. Pokey has a backpack full of sandwiches, cookies and chips. Gumby is pulling a wagon with a sun umbrella, towels , water toys and it looks like a bottle of wine! Just in case thinks Gumby. Suddenly Pokey sees a little boy building sand castles. He trots over to see if he can help but unfortunately tramples down some of the castle! The little boy is crying, Pokey is trying to explain that it’s difficult to manage four feet and the mother is looking a bit angry! Oh my! Gumby rushes over and helps rebuild the castle. Then they decide the best spot might be further down the beach. May 4,2021. Pandemic Blues. Pokey has taken Gumby to a racetrack! Pokey heard it was a fun place to go, even if you didn’t have a drivers license. Well Gumby is a little nervous. He’s not sure Pokey can really drive. But round and round they go, getting faster and faster. Gumby had had his face in his hands but when he finally looks up , he says” Pokey you are not a bad driver at all! A little too fast but at least there was no crashing! Hey all the other drivers are muppets! May 3, 2021. Pandemic Blues. Gumby has taken Pokey to the art museum. He is so excited to see all the famous pictures! But Pokey is bored! He was okay for a while but then he climbed out of the wagon and started rolling around on the floor! Gumby is so embarrassed! Suddenly Pokey notices a teacher and his class touring the museum. “What are they doing?”he asks loudly. “Shhh! “hisses Gumby “ Don’t disturb everyone! They are learning about the art! You could try to learn too!” “ Oh “ sighs Pokey “ could we take a break? There’s a nice cafe downstairs.
