July 31, 2020. Post Covid-19 time -an imagining. Bini and Phill are taking some time off - a bit of a pause. Bini is explaining to Rodney that they might spend sometime down at the river fishing and swimming with friends but they also might go camping as well. Rodney is a little sad. “ I am going to miss you guys” he sniffles. “ It’s okay” says Bini “ we will be back every once in a while” . Phill is dreaming of the perfect quiet vacation without crazy adventures. Maybe just a good supply of chips and beer. August is a traditional down time . So this page will be down for a while . July 30, 2020. Post Covid-19 time -an imagining. Bini and Rodney have gone to the zoo with Phill. They are happy to see all the animals but a little upset about the fences and cages. So they are talking to some of the zoo keepers about it. “Well “says one keeper “ some of the animals are too dangerous to be able to just roam around. So for public safety we have to have fences. But we try to give them as natural a habitat as possible.” “Don’t they just want to go back to their own places?” asks Bini. “ Maybe, but most of these animals were born in captivity and wouldn’t know how to live in the wild.” Hmmm thinks Bini I wonder! “Anyway “ says the keeper” things are evolving in zoos and probably we won’t see them in the future.” Rodney and Bini think that’s probably a good thing. Then they realize the Phill has wandered off and got to close to one of the enclosures! A zoo keeper is going to bring him back. “ Come on Phill!” shouts Bini “ We are going to see the seals eat fish!” And away they go Bini and Rodney singing “ We are going to the zoo , zoo, zoo. July 29, 2020. Post Covid-19 time-an imagining. Today the Racoon family has come to visit at Bini’s home. Rodney is very excited and running all around. Suddenly he shouts” Look Mom and Dad. They even have indoor facilities! Even a shower!” “ oh dear” says Rosie very embarrassed” that’s not polite Rodney!” “It’s okay” answers Phill “kids do things like that.” Then Rodney says” We are going to buy a house in this neighborhood!” “ Oh “ says Sam this time. “you know Rodney we are just looking right now!” “But it would be so cool!” moans Rodney. “Well , I hope it’s easier for you than for us” exclaims Phill. “Why?” ask Rosie and Sam. “It takes a while for people here to get use to new neighbours. We had a hard time when we came a few years ago because we are a different type of family. And Rochman has a really hard time. Everyone was always wondering where his feet were and they didn’t like home humming and singing all the time. And of course some people have had a hard time with other racoons , tipping over garbage cans and getting into attics.” explained Phill. Rosie and Sam say they would never be like that and everybody said of course not. “ Well “said Sam “ If we decide to move, we will have to make a good effort to educate the neighbours about what good homeowners racoons can be!” “And” said Rochman “ we can help with that!” Phill and Bini are surprised-Rochman doesn’t usually speak up when they have company! “It’s important!” states Rochman and stops talking. July 28, 2020 Post Covid-19 time -an imagining. Bini has an invitation to visit her new friend Rodney. Phill is asked to come too so the families can get to know each other. Phill thinks this is very sensible. Bini is not so sure! Phill has brought chips and beer to share and Mr. Racoon is very pleased! He says “ Call me Sam” and the two of them strike up a friendship just like that. Mrs.Racoon says”well my name is Rosie and I have prepared some special nuts and grubs for you to try!” Bini and Phill are a little unsure about new foods but they politely try and find some are delicious and others are harder to get use to. “ That’s okay “ says Rosie “ you might grow to like the grubs.” Bini and Rodney spend a delightful day reading and sharing stories and climbing trees. Rodney is very good at climbing! When they get home , Rochman wants to now all about the Racoon family. “ Well “ says Bini “ of course they are raccoons! That makes them look different and eat strange foods but Rodney is just the best fellow!” “So” says Phill “ I guess being different is okay?” “Absolutely “ states Bini “ Look at us - we are all different too ! July 27, 2020. Post Covid-19 time. Bini and Phill have gone to the carnival. They rode on the Merry Go Round and Phill enjoyed that ride ! Now they are having a break in the picnic area. Of course Phill has chips! “You know” says Bini “ I am getting older and more responsible.” “Yes I guess that’s true” answers Phill. “So I think it’s time I had a boyfriend!” states Bini-and before Phill could say anything, she adds “ How about the guy who runs the Merry go Round? The one with the black leather jacket? He’s good looking and would be fun!” “Hmmm” mutters Phill “ I think he’s a little mature for you!” “Well how about the cowboy?” asks Bini. “ Now I think you should keep looking” suggests Phill. “But what am I looking for?” grumbles Bini . “ Maybe someone closer to your age and who shares your interests.” is Phill’s suggestion. So Bini looks around and noticed a family sitting near them. And one of them is reading a book! Bini goes over to talk to him and discovers he is reading Alice in Wonderland, unabridged and original version! How exciting! They start talking about Alice and all kinds of topics. Turns out his name is Rodney. Bini likes that name. Time to get phone numbers and emails. July 24, 2020. Post Covid-19 time-an imagining. Bini managed to persuade Phill to go on a hot air balloon ride. Phill doesn’t like heights and isn’t sure the balloon is safe but there he is! “Wow” shouts Bini “ so many balloons! This is so exciting!” “Ohhhh!” moans Phill “ I don’t feel so good. I wish this thing would stay still”. “But look at the view !” exclaims Bini. “ You can see fields and rivers and trees and there goes some airplanes right below us!” Phill turns a little green and groans “ We are up higher than an airplane! I think I am going to be sick!” Bini pats Phill gently on the back and says “ Okay we can go down now. I didn’t know you got air sick.” Phill answers “ I have never been up this high before . I didn’t know either. And I forgot the chips!” What will Bini do on Monday? July 23,2020. PostCovid -19 time -an imagining. Bini and Phill are back home from their adventures. Down by the river , they are all taking a break from the heat by resting at the water’s edge. They have told Rochman all about the princess, the dragon and the witch. And about the monster in the swamp and the castle guards. Rochman finds the whole story incredible not to mention exciting. He is thinking about how brave Bini was and resourceful too. “So now what?” asks Rochman. “ Look “ answers Bini” I’ve been reading all about hot air balloons!” I think that could be a fabulous adventure!” Phill groans and avoids the conversation by saying”I am going to just rest here right now. July 22, 2020. Post Covid-19 time-an imagining. Well the wicked witch is gone, done in by salty potatoe chips and the princess and Garry the Dragon are free and happy. They show Bini and Phill where the Door is hidden outside the castle walls. Bini finds she is happy and sad at the same time- happy to be able to go home and sad to say goodbye to the princess. They had had a very good time talking while having a celebratory tea time. They promise to stay in touch, maybe even visit again some time. Finally Phill says “It’s time to go.” Bini hugs the princess, pats Garry and off they go through the Door , to be transported back home.
