May 26, 2020. Day 71 of Covid-19 stay at home time. The art classes continue! Today it’s abstract painting. All was going well, the professor was quite pleased with Gumby and Pokey’s art work efforts. Suddenly Pokey decides the best way to paint is to roll in it! It’s all over him- on his legs, his back, in his mane and tail- what a mess! The professor throws up his hands in dismay! Gumby rushes over to the professor , pours him a glass of wine and says” Try this. I find sometimes it is the only thing to do when dealing with Pokey!” “Thank you “ says the professor” Now take him home for a bath. You might have to scrub really hard!” Gumby gets Pokey up and takes him home. He drinks a bit more wine while Pokey splashes and scrubs in the bath. Pokey says” Now that was the most fun ever!” “I suppose “ mutters Gumby “ maybe you invented a new way to paint. A full body experience!” Gumby and Pokey would like to thank all their faithful readers. All the likes, laughs and comments have been much appreciated but it is time to try living a normal life as much as possible. It’s warm and the sun is shining. May 25, 2020. Day 70 of Covid-19 staying at home. Some people are going out but need to work harder at being careful- keep your distance everyone! Today Gumby and Pokey find themselves at an art class in collage. The professor is back , trying to help and teach them how to do collage. They have glue sticks and coloured papers and have done some cutting of paper. Pokey says” I love the sound of the scissors cutting up paper!” “ I think” says Gumby “ That now it’s time to lay out your design and glue it down!” Pokey begins to work on assembling his collage but gets glue on his hooves and on his legs and soon there are little bits of paper stuck all over him. Shaking his legs really hard doesn’t seem to help! “Okay” sighs Gumby “ let’s go home and put you in the bath. Good thing this glue is water soluble.” “That was fun. I think I may be getting the idea. May 24, 2020. Day 69 of Covid-19 time. The Door has taken Gumby and Pokey into the country side to have a bike ride. This is new to Pokey and not easy with four feet but he seems to have got the idea. Lots to learn about balance, speed, the brakes and things like stop signs! There are many other people riding bikes and motorcycles. “ I guess” says Gumby “ it’s a nice spring day and everyone wants to get outside.” “ Look at those girls!” calls out Pokey “ Didn’t we see them on the ski hill? And I really like the motorcycles!” “You are much too young for motorcycles or girls !”says Gumby. It’s going to be hard as Pokey grows up thinks Gumby. He just loves exciting things! May 23, 2020. Day 68 of Covid-19 still being careful time. TheDoor has taken Gumby and Pokey to Africa- just what Pokey had wished for yesterday. They are on safari, riding in a Jeep with special guides and equipment. The guides have already told Gumby and Pokey that they must be quiet, stay inside the Jeep and don’t stick out their hands or heads “ Why not?”asks Pokey . They are told that as long as they stay inside the shape of the Jeep, the animals will think they are just another large animal. So they see lots of zebras, tigers and even giraffes but Pokey was hoping to see a lion. And also he was wanting the animals to come closer. Just then a lion comes out of the grasses and starts to walk close by the Jeep. Pokey tries to stay calm and quiet but whispers to Gumby” why does the guide have a gun? He won’t shoot the lion will he?” “ No “ answers Gumby” That’s just in case.” Now Pokey is really worried- in case of what he wonders?! But he keeps quiet and the lion walks by calmly and that’s all that happens. Except of course Pokey is unbelievably excited! May 22, 2020 . Day 67 of Covid -19 stay at home time. Hopefully soon. Today Gumby and Pokey are in their backyard. During these strange times, Gumby knows that Pokey should be doing some homeschool time but their adventures got in the way of that. Also Gumby kept thinking that maybe Pokey was learning more going places with the Door. This morning, Pokey is practicing his reading. Mostly he doesn’t really see the point of reading but today he has found two books he likes. One is about construction and trucks that he is interested in after visiting the construction site. The other book is about going on safari in Africa. Suddenly he is jumping up and down shouting” I get it! I get it!” “What?” mutters Gumby. Now Gumby has been sitting in his lounge chair having a little sip of wine and truthfully not really paying attention to Pokey! Pokey says@ I see now that all the letters make words and the words tell the story about the pictures! It’s almost like going somewhere with the Door but in my head!” So thinks Gumby this is good, now there should be some quiet time around here. And it is quiet for a while. Pokey moves on to the safari book and gets really excited! “ Gumby “ he says shaking him awake” our next trip should be to Africa! I want to see animals running free !” “ okay “ says Gumby half asleep and Pokey goes happily back to his book. Gumby pores a little more wine in his cup, puts his head back in the sun and drifts away. Pokey has learned to read! May 21, 2020. Day 66 of Covid-19 staying at home time. Wow! Today Gumby and Pokey are visiting a construction site. Lots of big trucks and diggers and steamrollers are driving about. The machines are carrying sand, digging up sand and flattening it out too. Lots of grinding and growling noises from all these big machines! And then when they back up , lots of tooting noises too! May 20, 2020. Day 65 of Covid-19 and the sun is shining! Keep your distance but get outside! Gumby and Pokey are at the fair! There are swings and giant slides and merry go rounds and all kinds of rides. And wonderful food like funnel cakes, burgers and fries and cotton candy. Pokey has bought a cone of cotton candy in a very bright pink colour. Unfortunately he drops it in the sand! He is crying and kicking all four feet. “ Come on “ says Gumby “ we are next on the Merry go Round! We can get more cotton candy later. “ Off they go to ride on the horses on the merry go round. Pokey is still sniffling a little when he sees a little boy running to pick up his cotton candy. “ No!” He shouts” That’s dirty and yucky! Don’t eat it!” Well they have a great time at the fair and go home slightly queasy from all the junk food and the rides. There are other guests and a body on the carpet! Pokey whispers “ I think she is dead! And look at these people - don’t they remind you of that game? “ “oh my” gasps Gumby “ it’s Clue!” “ And” says Pokey “ there are all the weapons too! May 18, 2020. Day 63 of Covid-19 stay at home time. Be safe- wear your mask, keep your distance. Gumby and Pokey have arrived at their camp site at Algonquin Park. It is very beautiful with wonderful trees and water close by. They have made a campfire and have cooked beans and hotdogs and s’ mores for dessert. Now they are settling in to their tents and sleeping bags. Pokey anxiously asks about wild animals. Squirrels and birds are alright but he is worried about bears! And maybe wolves! Gumby says” there are some animals here but they really don’t like us especially when we make noise.” “ okay “ says Pokey “I am good at making noise!”. And so they go to sleep, Gumby carefully sipping on his wine so as not to wake Pokey. Tomorrow will be a big day, travelling by canoe to see lots of lakes. And setting up camp in a new place. May 17, 2020. Day 62 of Covid-19 waiting it out, it’s getting really difficult now. Today Gumby and Pokey are on a car trip. The Door said as there were so many complaints about the rough trip yesterday through the black hole, that Gumby and Pokey would have to try travel as it is done by others. “Well” says Pokey “ for one thing this way takes a lot longer! Why are we stopping now?” “The cars need fuel” says Gumby “ something else we didn’t think about!” Pokey also wonders why they have so much stuff to take and where exactly are they going? Gumby explains “ We need stuff because we are going camping. We are going to a park called Algonquin .” “Hmmm” says Pokey “ I like the idea of camping but do we carry all this stuff?” “Yes we do” replies Gumby. Pokey is quiet for a while , thinking this over. Then he starts watching the trees go by out of the window. Suddenly he bursts out with “ Are we there yet? May 15, 2020. Day 60 of Covid-29 waiting and hoping time. The Door brought Gumby and Pokey to the ski hill! “ I didn’t know you could ski at this time of the year.”says Pokey. “ if you go to other parts of the world it’s winter for them “ answers Gumby. It is very crowded on the ski hill with many types of skiers. The big girls seem a bit intimidating to Pokey. “ I talked to some of the other skiers.” Gumby tells him. “ They say that those girls are alright, they don’t ski too much . Mostly they are snow bunnies, they came to see and be seen”. After some discussion and trying equipment out, Gumby chooses traditional skis and Pokey picks a snowboard. After all, with four feet you need the bigger board to fit all four feet! They have fun and get better as the day goes on. Afterwards they stop by the chalet for hot chocolates and corn dogs. May 14, 2020. Day 59 of Covid-19 waiting it out at home. Well Gumby and Pokey have been very busy building a town with blocks. Pokey is excited and calls out to Gumby “ This is so much fun! Kind of a more real Sim city just for Pokeys! Gumby what are you doing over there?” “ I was just asking this nice man when he was going to open his pub. I think a nice cold beer would be good after all this hard work. And maybe a sandwich too.” “okay “ says Pokey “ but just one and definitely a sandwich. May 13, 2020 Day 58 of Covid -19 stay at home still. The Door has brought Gumby and Pokey to the zoo. They wander about looking at the animals-lions , tigers, penguins, giraffes and zebras and more. So many animals! Pokey says sadly “ I know it’s interesting to see all these animals especially if you can’t visit them in the wild. But it’s sad that they are in gages and not free to run! Look there’s a cousin of mine- the zebra! Maybe I could let him go?” “Oh no!” Says Gumby “ He wouldn’t be happy here . It’s not his native habitat. But you could let the zoo know how you feel. Maybe things will change!” So off they go , back through the Door and on to new adventures. May 12, 2020. Day 57 of Covid-19. The natives are getting restless. Let’s hope stay at home time is almost done. Gumby and Pokey are on the farm today , trying to help with a small vegetable garden . They have checked the catalog and seeds have been ordered. Now they are turning the soil in a small patch on the lawn . Mr and Mrs Farmer have wisely decided not to interfere and see what the guys can do. Unfortunately Pokey has brought along his toy wind-up bull he bought in the antique shop. The bull has run crazily through all their hard work! Gumby is annoyed! Pokey says soothingly “ Gumby why don’t you have a look at the seeds we ordered and pick the ones you like best? I will put the bull in the pasture and fix this mess.” My goodness, I think Pokey may have learned how to be tactful and helpful! Everything goes smoothly after that and the garden looks perfect. “ Very satisfying” says Gumby. May 11, 2020. Day 56 of Covid-19 stay at home time . It’s not over yet folks! After rescuing the princess, Gumby and Pokey are invited to the castle for an afternoon tea reward party. Gumby is thrilled that the princess did have him sit next to her. They also met her two sisters but Gumby thought his princess was the most splendid one of them all. And the tea table!- muffins and scones, so yummy! Suddenly Gumby hears loud slurping and lapping noises! Looking at Pokey he whispers” What are you doing in that tea cup?” “ I wanted to get the last drop at the bottom “ says Pokey in a hollow voice, echoing out of the tea cup. “ Don’t do that! It’s rude!” ,hisses Gumby. The princess leans over, kisses Gumby on the cheek and says” Don’t be embarrassed! We don’t care as long as everyone has a good time!” Gumby is blushing and smiles and enjoys his tea. “That was lovely” says Gumby with a happy smile as they leave to go back to the Door. “What an exciting day! I think I am in love!” Pokey snickers and laughs in a horsey way but is really happy for his friend. May 9, 2020. Day 54 of Covid-19. Still waiting at home time. Gumby and Pokey have gone fishing. It was time for some peace and quiet. Pokey has been finding that there are a lot of rules to think about. And in fact Gumby has broken one of Pokey’s rules- he has brought along a bottle of wine! Pokey grumbles” That’s just great! Now I am going to have to do all the rowing!” “ No“ says Gumby “ I plan on being a responsible drinker. Everything’s going to be fine! Relax and enjoy the fishing”. And so it was , Gumby was a responsible fellow and Pokey learned to sit quietly and not frighten the fish. They each caught one fish and released it back into the lake. And it was a lovely day for both of them. May 8, 2020. Day 53 of Covid-19 is it over yet time. Still stay at home! Well today Gumby and Pokey have landed in an Antique shop. Pokey thinks it is a very strange place. “ Why would you want old stuff? “ he asks. “Well” says Gumby “ without old stuff, we wouldn’t have so many interesting places to go! But also lots of people like that these things have history and like to decorate with antiques. Also people like to collect things, like buttons or spoons. Don’t you collect something, Pokey?” “ Not yet” exclaims Pokey “ but I really like this wind up bull!
