April 9,2021. Pandemic Blues. Today Gumby and Pokey are feeling a little tired and achy. “I think it’s because of the poke. Our immune systems are doing their job.”says Gumby. “That’s okay”says Pokey “ sometimes it’s nice to just rest in the backyard and read a good book.” “True” sighs Gumby “ and isn’t it nice to see all the trees beginning to look springy and the birds chirping away?” But Pokey doesn’t answer. He is sound asleep and Gumby decides to do the same. April 8,2021. Pandemic Blues. Gumby and Pokey are at the beach. That was the one thing Pokey really wanted to do after his poke. There are other people at the beach but they can’t play together yet- Gumby says they need to wait a couple of weeks for the vaccine to take affect. “But”says Gumby “ you can still look at each other’s sand castles, maybe see who can make the biggest one?” “ Okay “ sighs Pokey “ how come they put the poke in my side and your butt and not in our arms?” “Because it goes into muscle and my arms and your legs were too thin” answers Gumby. “Don’t complain,Pokey. April 7,2021 Pandemic Blues. Gumby and Pokey are at their local arena , waiting for their turn to be poked. Gumby had to convince Pokey to go because Pokey had a lot of fears - especially since he figured out what the Poke was going to be! But as Gumby told him, the more people that get the poke the better it will be. And Pokey asked “ Does that mean we could go to the beach again?” “Well “ said Gumby “ we would still need to be a bit careful, wear our masks and keep our distance a bit. April 6,2021. Pandemic Blues. “Come on Pokey! Let’s go for a walk!” calls Gumby. Pokey is still depressed and doesn’t want to go for a walk. But Gumby explains that it will do him good to be out in the fresh air and sunshine. “ Look at the trees , the leaves are coming out and the greens are breathtaking! “ exclaims Gumby. Pokey begins to look around and hears birds chirping. “I feel a little better “ he mutters. “That’s great” says Gumby “ because tomorrow we are going to get our pokes!” What does that mean thinks Pokey? April 5,2021 Pandemic Blues. Here are Gumby and Pokey again! Pokey is suffering a fit of ennui! Oh dear thinks Gumby here we go again! Pokey is lying on his side, whimpering and moaning and kicking. “ What’s wrong?”asks Gumby. “ Nothings changed! A whole year and still it’s a lockdown!”Pokey groans. “Hmmm”murmurs Gumby. “Well at least Spring is coming. Look at the lovely greens and yellows just beginning to show”. “Noooo, that just means it’s going to rain!”moans Pokey “ can it get any worse?” Poor Pokey, life is very miserable right now. Gumby walks away wondering how to help his friend. Maybe tomorrow will be better. Pokey can’t believe Gumby is leaving him!
